It’s time for cleaning your car!  The annual Christmas Eve drive to look at holiday  lights is right around the corner. Time to load up the kids in their jammies with cookies and hot chocolate and ooo at all the lights! Don’t forget your pup!

That drive around the neighborhood is a lot more fun when the inside of the car is clean and smelling fresh.

Spotless, with his Super Nose, is quick to point out no one likes the smell of chemical cleaners for the holidays. Pro-Tek™ has fresh scents of cherry, lemon or orange to set the perfect holiday mood! Plus, Pro-Tek™ cleans everything in your car from the headrests to the carpets to the windows. One cleaner does it all! In this month’s Pro-Tek™ Pro-Tips, Spotless and I will show you how.

Understanding Your Car’s Surfaces

For best results cleaning your car, you have to consider the variety of surfaces. Your car has three main interior surfaces, and each one needs to be treated differently.  Because of holiday magic and dog love, Pro-Tek™ can clean them all!

Vinyl in a car typically includes the dashboard, door panels, and sometimes the seating. Vinyl headrests get particularly grimy, constantly exposed to dirt and oils from hair and skin.

Glass windows get road dirt and watermarks on the outside, and on the inside, fingerprints and dog nose smears! Windows have to be cleaned carefully to avoid streaking.

Carpets get soiled from shoes and trash leaving debris and stains.

Pro-Tek™ can clean all those messes like a dog clean his dinner bowl!

What You’ll Need for Cleaning Your Car

  • Microfiber cloths
  • Vacuum cleaner with brush attachment OR hand brush
  • 3 Pro-Tek™ spray bottles – You get one FREE with your purchase!
  • Pro-Tek™ Cherry, Pro-Tek™ Lemon, or EcoOrange™ (Pick your favorite scent!)
  • Soft-bristled brush for carpet stains

Step 1: Preparation

Begin by using a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment or your hand brush to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris from the entire interior of your car. Now’s the time to clean out the fast food wrappers and lollipop sticks from under the seats!

Hey, is that a few dollars in change you just found?

Now, for the solutions! For vinyl, make a 10:1 dilution of Pro-Tek™ by following the measuring lines on your Pro-Tek™ spray bottle. Pour in 1.75 ounces Cherry, Lemon or Eco-Orange. Fill the rest of the bottle with clean water. For larger or smaller bottles, use this easy dilution chart.

For greasy or muddy carpet stains, make a 3:1 dilution, using the same method as above.

For glass, make a 120:1 dilution.

Ho, ho, here comes your clean car for the holiday lights tour!

Step 2: Cleaning Your Car’s Vinyl Surfaces

Spray the 10:1 solution on all your vinyl surfaces: dashboard, headrests, even your floor mats! Gently wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Spray extra Pro-Tek™ solution on particularly greasy or grimy areas, like headrests!

Spotless asked me to remind you to take a whiff of that fresh cherry, lemon or orange fragrance. Ok, Spotless, good idea!

Step 3: Cleaning Your Car’s Carpet Stains

On behalf of all dogs, Spotless wants to apologize for any muddy prints he left on the carpet. But, his tail wag means he is very grateful, on behalf of all dogs, to be taken on so many walks!

Vehicle carpet stains can be greasy or muddy. But, before you get in there with your scrubbing, double check to be sure all the debris is removed. Loose debris can tear up carpet fibers and leave worn spots over time. While it may be tempting to skip the whole vacuum cleaner thing…don’t. Removing debris an important step! If you don’t have a vacuum, use a hand brush.

Liberally spray stains with 3:1 solution and let sit for a few minutes. Pro-Tek™ is working hard to gobble up dirt and grime. With a wet cloth or soft-bristled brush, gently scrub the stain until it disappears! Voila! A holiday miracle!

Step 4: Cleaning Your Car Windows

Make sure your windows are fully closed. Spray the 120:1 solution liberally on the exterior window and let sit for just a moment to allow water spots or fingerprints times to saturate. Do not allow the solution to dry!

With a clean, dry microfiber cloth, wipe along the window’s outside edge first. Then use circular motions to clean the entire window, working your way from the outside edge to the center.

Repeat for the interior side of the window. You can see clearly now! Would you look at that?

Conclusion

Your car is all ready for the holiday lights tour! All you need now is some homemade Christmas cookies, a few kids in their jammies, and your dog! (Remember that Pro-Tek™ is 100% food safe, so it’s perfect for cleaning the kitchen after you bake!)

By following these simple steps and maintaining a consistent cleaning routine, you can keep your car’s interior looking fresh and inviting for years to come.

Spotless and I and everyone here on the Pro-Tek™ Clean Team wish you a season full of lights and sparkle!

Maintaining a Clean Car all Year Long: Secret Tips from Clara

  • Have a designated spot for trash in your car, like a window compartment. Whenever you gas up, include taking out the trash as part of your routine.
  • Speaking of routine, while you’re gassing up is a good time to shake out floor mats and use your hand brush to touch up carpets. Caution: Do not enter and exit your car while you’re fueling; static electricity build up with gas fumes can be dangerous!
  • Keep a car cleaning kit with bottles of 120:1, 10:1 and 3:1 in your car! Include a stack of microfiber cloths, too. That way, you can keep your car looking and smelling fresh.
